Today’s Monday Morning Inspiration is all about how to you can create a relaxing fall season.
Can you believe it? It’s finally here. My favorite season of them all – fall. There’s just something about this season that relaxes me from head to toe.
What I Love About Fall
There’s so much to love about fall … the vibrant colors of the trees, the cool breeze in the air, and the crunch of the leaves under my feet. Let’s not forget the feeling of cuddling up with a soft, cozy throw and smelling the wonderful fall scents of pumpkin, cinnamon, and spice.
Fall has a special place in my heart too because I was married in the fall and my two children were born during the fall season. So, I guess you could say I’ve ‘fallen’ in love with fall and how it makes me feel.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to relax during the fall season…
- Take a fall walk. There’s nothing quite like it. By far, it’s my favorite way to usher in the season. Who can resist the deep reds, oranges, and yellows of the trees this time of year? Fall just adds an extra spring to my step during my daily walks. It’s amazing to see what God has created. The cool, crisp wind blowing through my hair makes me feel free. And, the crunch of the leaves brings back fond memories of being a kid and jumping in a big pile of leaves in my backyard.
- Cuddle up with a throw. I love throw blankets. If you walk in my home you can certainly tell as I seem to have them everywhere – strewn across couches, love seats, and chairs. These days, there are many types and colors of throws – from vibrant fall colors to neutral tones – from soft Sherpa throws to cotton and velvet ones. And, fall throws don’t need to break the bank. They are relatively inexpensive and can be found just about anywhere from home stores, gift and card stores, and even drugstores too! It just goes to show you that it’s hard to resist the urge to cuddle up with something so soft and cozy.
- Read a book or watch a Fall movie. I love to read but especially during the Fall season. It’s so comforting to cuddle up with my favorite throw and read a good book or watch my favorite movie. Some of my favorite fiction writers are Debbie Macomber, Richard Paul Evans, and Karen Kingsbury. Of course, fall is a great time to start a daily quiet time with God too. What better way to start or end your day than by reading the Bible or a spiritual book? Jesus Calling is one of my favorite devotionals. I’m amazed at how the daily devotions feel like they were written just for me. When it comes to fall movies, I’m a huge Hallmark fan. As you know, it’s often difficult to find a good, clean uplifting movie. But the Hallmark Channel never disappoints.
- Drink a warm beverage. Now that you have your favorite blanket, book, or movie ready to go, how about a nice, warm beverage to go with it? We’re hot cocoa fans in my house so that’s my drink of choice these days. But, I’m also a tea lover. A hot cup of spice tea, green tea, or chamomile lavender tea helps relax me before I go to sleep.
- Bake fall treats. Baking has always been a hobby of mine but even more so during the fall season. Once fall arrives, I’m ready to make the classic pumpkin treats – pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin roll. And, let’s not forget apple pie and ginger snap cookies! The routine of baking, such as the careful measuring and mixing of ingredients, keeps me focused, calm, and relaxed.
- Light a fall candle. If you’re not a baker but crave the scents of fall, light a fall candle. My favorite candle scents are pumpkin spice and vanilla. You can’t go wrong no matter what scent you choose. There’s nothing better than the scents of fall filling your home. Then, take a minute to just gaze at the candle and watch your stress just melt away.
- Go apple or pumpkin picking. Some of our best family memories were of picking apples and pumpkins with our kids. Just because my kids are older doesn’t mean these fun outings have to come to an end. Even as teens, they still enjoy it. For the moments they can’t be with us, my husband and I enjoy making this a fall date of our own.
- Decorate your house for fall. After the summer months, it’s a welcome change to see bursts of deep oranges, reds, and yellows in my home. The colors brighten up the space and make my house feel inviting. Each year, I look forward to decorating my home for fall because it doesn’t overwhelm me as much as decorating for the Christmas season. My fall decorations are much less in number, therefore, I’m able to take my time and place each decoration in just the right spot without too much fuss. My favorite decorating tip is flameless candles. Coming home to the soft glow of flameless candles scattered throughout my home provides a welcoming, calm presence from the moment I walk in the door.
As you can see, there are many ways to have a relaxing fall season. I hope you’ll try one or more of these ideas and see if they relax you too.

In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; And His hands formed the dry land. – Psalm 95:4-5 (NKJV)
